and contained in the Crown Lease and to a Declaration of
Trust given to His Excellency the Governor dated the 1st day
of September 1923. The Bishop is therefore ex officio Warden
of St. Paul's College.

Certain funds had been provided by Reverend V.J. Stanton
and others as more particularly stated in the annexed convey-
ance, for the purpose of building on the land and a School
Building and Residence for the Warden were erected and an
Anglo-Chinese School was maintained by him and continued in
existence for many years.
10. In 1900 the then Bishop of Victoria closed the school and
opened a class for training native catechists and teachers
under the auspices of the Church Missionary Society.
11. In 1909 this training school was transferred to Canton and
a new Anglo-Vernacular school for Chinese boys was opened by
the Church Missionary Society at the invitation of the Right
Reverend Gerard Heath Lander then Bishop of Victoria and is
known as St. Paul's School.
12. In 1911-1913 a block of school buildings and a chapel
named St. Paul's Church were added to the existing buildings
out of funds provided by subscriptions and in 1920 a hostel
was erected out of funds provided by the school and by subs-
criptions and in 1923 a gymnasium was added from school funds
assisted by a Government grant.
13. At the pre sent date the buildings with the exception of
the Warden's residence and private chapel and St. Paul's
Church are used by St. Paul's School aforesaid under an
Agreement between the Church Missionary Society and the Bishop
of Victoria dated the 15th January 1923 under which the School
pays a rent of $1,000. a year for the premises and is respon-
sible for the repair of the buildings.
